Gamebridge 2025 - Individual Excellence - 2D Art Submission
A downloadable project
Hi ~
Here's my submission for the Gamebridge Awards ~ 2D Art Excellence sub category.
I made these assets for a game called 'Dark Bet' ~ a game set in a gambling house sometime in the 18th Century. This game was created as part of a team project at uni. It was my job to make the game look appealling. My role included 3D artist, Level Design, but most importantly 2D artist.
I traditionally painted all of the cards as well as the back of the card. I used watercolours, colouring pencils and graphite for the front of cards, and used ink and bleach for the back cards. Then I edited the images using Adobe Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint.
My main inspiration for the back of card were the 'Bicycle' playing cards. I chose the two snakes, ouroboros symbolism because it represents life, death and rebirth - the self destruction of gambling and rebirth of life gambling wins can bring to people.
The front of cards were inspired by the early 18th century cards that were used as tarot cards .
All of this was quite a long process, but ultimately I'm happy with the result.
